A Weekend In Tel Aviv

Frenn is one of my favorite menswear labels, and it originates in Helsinki, Finland. The two talented designers, Jarkko Kallio and Antti Laitinen, expertly conceptualize and craft some of the most stunning menswear pieces on the market and utilize the best fabrics available. The clothing is refined, yet casual enough for every day – with a particular bent that is perfect for travelers like me. Most of the fabrics do not wrinkle, which makes packing a breeze. You can literally fold a jacket eight times into a carry-on, fly ten hours and pull it out at your final destination and wear it without ironing. Genius.

I took a trip recently, after speaking at the World Travel Market in London, to Tel Aviv, Israel. I spent most of my time in Herzliya, a beautiful suburb, and the old city of Jaffa. In the marina of Herzliya, it was a chilly evening. I opted to throw-on Frenn’s Petri overcoat. The jacket is constructed from Italian blue and black fabric and is made of wool, mohair and alpaca. I wore the jacket over a crisp white Burberry shirt and Frenn’s black Sampo trousers, which are made with wool and have an elastic band.

On an afternoon stroll through Tel Aviv’s old city of Jaffa, I opted to wear something casual and layered. I threw on a pair of denim by Acne and an embroidered white shirt by Acne, as well. Over my shirt, I layered a Frenn Jarkko wool jacket – which is beautifully made, lightweight and goes with anything.

On my feet I went to one of my favorite British shoe brands, Duke and Dexter. Duke and Dexter is a new brand, started in 2014, and specializes in loafers, slip-ons and boots – all designed in London and handcrafted in England. The shoes are solid, well-made and beautiful. These suede black loafers with black tassels were the perfect choice for this look. Duke and Dexter takes risks and goes out on a limb when designing, offering some fun and colorful shoes. They also offer classic shapes and materials, as well as a bespoke service that works with clients to customize shoes – hand-painting designs or images onto the shoes themselves. I had a great time exploring Tel Aviv over the weekend.
