The Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff Johannesburg, located atop a hill in Johannesburg’s prominent Westcliff neighborhood, is a stunning example of what an urban resort can be. I was a recent guest at the property when South Africa reopened to American travelers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and was thrilled to finally stay here. Whether you’re traveling for business or leisure, this hotel will serve you and base you in the heart of the thriving metropolis.

I arrived to the property after a long flight from New York, and was ready for rest. The front desk already had my check-in completed and I was welcomed in a very COVID-19-friendly way. Four Seasons as a hotel brand has implemented “Lead With Care” as their initiative to keep guests safe, and the Johannesburg property was no different.

Plexiglass barriers were installed at the front desk and sanitizing stations are also everywhere in sight. Soon, after a quick introduction to Four Seasons convenient app, I was being led to my room.

Four Seasons put me in a beautiful suite overlooking the city in the distance. The room was welcoming with a delicious fruit and chocolate spread, cozy bed, ample closets, luxurious bathroom and amenities like robes, slippers and converters. The minibar had been removed for pandemic-related safety reasons and all menus converted to a comfortable QR code where guests can easily enjoy room service, breakfast, etc with the touch of a screen.

In fact, for those who choose to dine in room, you can message the front desk through the app and place your order to be delivered at the time of your choosing. I did this as I had a lovely terrace in which I could enjoy my meal in my bathrobe, in private.

The Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff offers guests many amenities. One that I think most would enjoy, is the spa. Here you can book a massage, facial or scrub – pretty much any spa-related service one can think of is available here. I booked a massage for late afternoon as my muscles were a bit sore from 21 hours of flying. The experience was safe, luxurious and one of the best massages I have ever had. It started with a food scrub and bath with light leg and calf massage – followed by 60 minutes of pure bliss. I tried not to allow my jet lag to get the best of me and fall asleep mid-treatment.

While on property, I enjoyed a casual and delicious dinner at Flames Restaurant. This is where breakfast and most meals are served and their dinners are hearty and well-presented. The mountaintop location affords guests lovely views over the city and the outdoor terrace is perfect for a safe and relaxing meal. The menus were diverse and offered a selection of international fare. I opted for Italian, choosing homemade pasta along with a South African Cabernet Sauvignon. The staff were friendly and the meal hit the spot – sending me right off to bed for a ten-hour post-travel snooze.

What I truly love about the Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff is not only the rooms and service, but the beauty of the place. It seems that everywhere you look there is a courtyard shrouded in flowers, a bubbling fountain or a pool to relax at. Though in the middle of Johannesburg, the property feels a world away – taking you somewhere aside from the hustle and bustle. For anyone traveling to or through Johannesburg, South Africa – make the Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff your home away from home.
