  • Rio de Janeiro's Chicest New Hotel Property | Janeiro Hotel

Janeiro Hotel, sitting proudly along an exclusive area of beach in Rio de Janeiro’s upscale neighborhood of Leblon, is a newcomer in the city’s ever-evolving hotel scene. The property was founded by Oskar Metsavaht, the creator of iconic Brazilian fashion label, Osklen. Metsavaht is known for melding the fashionable with green thinking and initiatives that benefit the environment, and Janeiro Hotel is no different. I was a guest here recently and was very impressed with not only the design and service, but the cool and effortless elegance that seemed to flood every public space. I arrived early in the morning to a hot cappuccino and warm welcome from the front desk team. The hotel itself seemed to melt into the sand with the use of calming whites, creams and beige – punctuated with bright greens that might be found in the neighboring jungle neighborhood of Joa. I was escorted to my room immediately which, to my delight, looked directly out onto the shimmering blue Atlantic. 53 rooms and suites offer ocean and beach vistas, flat screen televisions, pillowy white beds, seating areas and open bathroom plans that are some of the sexiest in the city. The hotel itself seems like an understated apartment building where a wealthy friend might live, the second floor being dedicated to delicious morning breakfasts and a rooftop pool and bar with views across the entire city. Janeiro Hotel is the perfect place for an early breakfast of acai and fruit, or an evening caipirinha in the pool as the sun dips below the horizon. Janeiro Hotel was my home base while in the city for five days. The staff here gets to know you rather quickly and are never without a smile and hello – no matter what time of day. It’s here where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of Rio, as you’re smack dab in the middle of it all, or just relax and slip into your room’s giant tub before dinner. Granado soaps are replenished daily, homemade Brazilian treats left bedside and even Metsavaht’s signature bottled juice served at breakfast. All you need is a few bathing suit options and a pair of denim and you’re set to arrive. What I love about Janeiro Hotel is that it’s easy, casual and fun – yet is enveloped in style without evening trying. You’ll run into both visitors and other Brazilians from nearby cities here, a sign that you’ve picked something real. No matter what time of year you journey to Rio, even with travel being as modified as it is due to COVID-19, make Janeiro Hotel your choice. You won’t regret it.

  • The Best Business Class Between The United States And Brazil | Azul

Azul , the newest and most modern Brazilian carrier that prides itself on a sparkling fleet of aircraft and impeccable service, offers the most comfortable international business class journey between North America and Brazil. Although the airline is not currently operating its usual routes due to the global COVID-19 crisis, the likelihood that it will reinstate most of the routes is very strong. I was a passenger recently on Azul’s flight between Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Campinas Airport (São Paulo), and found the experience to be one of my favorites out of many carriers to date. Azul was founded by David Neeleman, the Brazilian-American businessman who founded JetBlue years ago. It quickly built a critical and useful domestic flight network within Brazil and made Fort Lauderdale Airport its international hub in the United States, as other larger carriers who fly to Brazil have long been parked at Miami International Airport. My final destination on this particular trip was Rio de Janeiro, and I flew with Azul the entire way. Checking-in at FLL Airport is easy, as Azul operates a prominent ticket counter with economy and business class lines. My check-in process was very easy and I was given fast passes to get through security seamlessly. In a matter of minutes, we were boarding the 9 hour and 30 minute flight to Campinas. I was welcomed into business class with champagne, juice and a selection of beverages. Azul operates a small and intimate business class cabin – which is lovely to keep noise and commotion at a minimum. As we ascended, I stored my belongings, read through the branded menu and perused the entertainment options on the large television screen in front of my seat. The seats on-board are tucked-in and sheltered, creating a strong sense of privacy. Seats aboard international flights on Azul are completely lie-flat. After eating an delicious dinner composed of mixed greens, mushroom bisque and mango chicken – I curled-up with my comforter and laid back with a movie. I opened my flight kit was was given to me upon boarding, took out my sleep mask, ear plugs, hand cream and prepared all of them for use. As the movie ended, I slowly slid into lie-flat mode and drifted off. Dinner and cocktail options on this flight were fantastic. I was satisfied at the end of the meal and even enjoyed a hot fudge sundae. Brazilian cordials were offered and a nice selection of Portuguese and Brazilian wine – all of which were lovely. I slept a full 7 hours before being gently woken-up by a flight attendant for coffee and breakfast. Breakfast was heartier than I expected, with a selection of pastries, yogurt and eggs. My 9-plus hour journey quite literally flew by in a breeze and I found myself in Brazil, one of my favorite places, in a flash. The service was remarkable and the flight attendants on-board were incredibly kind and welcoming. For anyone seeking a flight to Brazil, choose Azul. Though airline routes seem uncertain during these tough times, Azul will likely keep their presence at Fort Lauderdale Airport and are expected to open a non-stop route between New York’s JFK Airport and Campinas in the coming months. They also fly to Lisbon and paris direct. Brazil is a magical place, and worth visiting over and over, and over again.

  • Paraty's Most Elegant Guesthouse | Casa Turquesa

Casa Turquesa is an elegant and luxurious guest house right at the heart of the colonial town of Paraty, Brazil. On the edge of the sea and virtually pouring directly out of the area’s lush, green tropical forest – Paraty is a dream for those who love peace, relaxation, history and art. Casa Turquesa is owned by Tetê Etrusco, and she runs it like it’s an extension of her home. I was a guest recently here and fell in love with the hotel and the place immediately. Arriving on Paraty’s bumpy cobblestone streets is an experience, but it’s fairly easy and only a three to four hour journey south of Rio de Janeiro. I planned to stay in Paraty two nights, and, by the time I left, wished I had stayed longer. As soon as you arrive Casa Turquesa you’re greeted with a friendly welcome and offered help with your bags. The subdued lobby is composed of stone, tile and soft linen fabrics – making it breezy, warm and relevant to the hotel’s surroundings. Art fills the walls and, in a moment, you have an espresso in-hand and you’re ready to explore. Upon arrival, Casa Turquesa provides turquoise or white sandals for you to keep. This is to encourage guests to take off their shoes when entering, as Paraty streets can get wet, dirty and sometimes flooded when it rains. While inside, you can traverse the grounds in your sandals, leaving your outdoor shoes in the front baskets. A renovated aristocratic building with just a handful of suites, Casa Turquesa is a dream for anyone who loves history and design. Paraty has been an important city in Brazil since the 1500s and, today, it’s been transformed into a paradise for artists who love the sheer beauty of the area and the colorful colonial buildings that line the cobbled streets. My room was very charming. It consisted of a cozy bed, television, desk, table and chairs, coffee area, walk-in closet and large bathroom. It’s a great place to write, draw or paint – and you’ll love the serenity that naturally fills each nook here. My windows looked-out onto the well-manicured courtyard, which offers a pool, lounges and lush landscaping. After arrival, two turquoise cocktails were brought to my room with mixed nuts and olives, a beautiful touch. While exploring Paraty, you will undoubtedly realize it’s not just a haven for art galleries and antique stores, but for phenomenal dining options. Restaurants spill-out onto the streets, lit by candlelight. Or, you can journey down to the beach area where you’ll find stunning food options along the shore. No doubt, you’ll have incredible Brazilian and international cuisine while visiting. Afternoons at Casa Turquesa are quiet. I chose an old book from the in-house library and relaxed on a lounge chair by the pool. At 3 pm, daily, the kitchen offers a selection of tea, coffee and freshly-made cakes to choose from…a little pick-me-up. Breakfasts are an affair with beautifully set tables and many options on the menu from eggs, local fruits, homemade yogurts, Brazilian tapioca and pastries. For anyone visiting Paraty, Brazil, this is the place to stay. Casa Turquesa is timeless, so much so that you’ll forget time even exists and never want to leave.

  • The Chicest Getaway In Angra Dos Reis | The Fasano Hotel

Fasano Angra dos Reis is not your typical island hotel. Just three hours south of Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro, this property is a part of the famed Brazilian hotel and restaurant group’s growing repertoire. Angra dos Reis, or Bay of Kings in English, is a chic archipelago of 365 islands with 2000 beaches where wealthy Brazilians from Rio and São Paulo vacation to get away from the city. There is everything here from beaches and bays, golf courses and fabulous restaurants. But, what people really come for is the sun, sand and peace and quiet that is much needed in today’s hectic world. I was a guest at Fasano Angra dos Reis recently and absolutely fell in love with the area and the property itself. The best way to arrive Angra if you’re coming via Rio is to hire a private driver. The road is windy and will take you approximately three hours to reach the hotel, but the drive is beautiful. I made my way through the lush, green rainforests and found myself pulling into a gated community of sorts where a wood and concrete architectural masterpiece rose mightily out of the green plants and azure water that lies just in front of the front door. Fasano is famed for using Earth tones in the decor of all their properties. The hotels seem to blend seamlessly into the surroundings and they always know how to use local, raw materials to build something quite fantastic. Upon check-in, I was offered an espresso and cookies. I was greeted by a warm reception and promptly shown to my room, which was on the third floor. Rooms at Fasano are large, with views of the beach, surrounding hills and property. There are only 60 rooms, so each one has been well-designed and showcases the fusion of Brazilian and Italian design, offering sumptuous beds, coffee stations, spa-like bathrooms, smart tvs, coffee stations and more. I was welcomed with two freshly cut coconuts and my favorite, brigadeiros (Brazilian chocolate and dulce de leche spheres). Fasano Angra dos Reis offers a true paradise that you’ll never want to leave. There are indoor and outdoor pools, a huge spa with a phenomenal array of services, dining options – including the Italian restaurant, Restaurant Fasano. There’s even a small line of boutiques and shope where you can stop to order Italian gelato to take with you to the beach. One of the best activities that can be arranged by the property is a day on a private boat exploring the islands and waters of Angra dos Reis. Fasano will pack you an elegant lunch that might consist of wine, caipirinhas, fish, pasta and salad – and shuttle you from secluded beach to secluded beach. The waters here are very warm, some are emerald green and some are electric blue. No beach is the same. You can stop to swim amongst coral reefs, swim to a local floating bar and just sunbathe on a stretch of sand that no one else knows about for miles around. While on property I was taken on a short walk nearby. I expected to see beautiful forests, trees and, possibly, wildlife. But, I never expected the stunning waterfalls I encountered – especially those with swimmable pools beneath them. I was able to swim in the pools beneath the falls and spotted colorful birds, capybara and even a small jaguar. It was magical. Angra dos Reis is a beach destination, one can’t help but indulge in the Brazilian and Italian flavors that Fasano offers on-property. I dined with the hotel two night, one night at nearby Nobu, and was in love with what they offered from the kitchen. Fresh fish, homemade pasta and rice dishes – all with international and Brazilian influences. The staff at the restaurant and in the hotel were beyond kind and attentive, catering to every need and making sure our experience was the very best it could be. The wine cellar is populated by both Brazilian and Italian wines, thousands of bottles to choose from. I indulged in a Barolo, my favorite from Italy and sank into the peacefulness that flows freely here. I loved every dish that was served. As I wrapped-up two nights here I was already planning my next trip. More islands, more beaches and more nights tucked into bed at the Fasano with popcorn watching Netflix. You simply can’t do better.

  • The Most Stunning Luxury Villa For A Greek Holiday | Villa Glaros Paxos

Villa Glaros is an idyllic Greek villa to base yourself for a holiday built for those who love luxury, privacy and the ability to station yourself on an island that most know anything about, in one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. The villa, a stunning retreat that cascades down a hillside through olive and cypress groves, is a testament to how taking your time when constructing the perfect holiday home, is more than worth it. I stayed at the villa recently, my first time to Paxos, and left completely enchanted and enthralled with all it has to offer luxury-minded travelers. Paxos is a small island, roughly 90-minutes by hydrofoil from the larger island of Corfu – which offers direct flights to many European hubs. Of course Greece has countless islands to choose from, but many are over-touristed and too famous for their own good. It’s those that sit quietly in the sunlight, rising out of the blue waves, that have the ability to take you somewhere else entirely. Paxos isn’t easy to get to, and not difficult either. It’s just hard enough to keep the masses away and call to those who are a bit more adventurous. Villa Glaros is the diamond waiting for you at the end of that journey. The villa can be found down a narrow dirt road, one that winds through countless olive trees and small houses, before it finally appears. Offering 7 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms and the ability to sleep 14 people in multiple dwellings, this structure is large and able to house a family or group. Villa Glaros has the perfect set-up for a gaggle of friends traveling together, or extended family that do something special together each year. When you rent the villa, it comes with a house manager as well as a French chef, who can work with you to design perfect meals from breakfast through dinner. So, once you choose this villa as your final stop, most all your needs will be taken care of after that decision. The large main home opens to panoramic views of the Ionian sea. Walking-in, you can’t help but be taken by the rising haze of purple mountains in the distance and the stunning art that has been collected by the owner of the villa throughout the years, which seems to punctuate every corner of the space. There is a main living area and several nooks, an office, indoor dining room, open kitchen and several choices for outdoor dining as well. I arrived with four colleagues to Paxos and none of us knew what to expect. Departing the boat and hopping onto dry land, I was met by a representative of Alfa Hire Paxos – the top local car rental company. She offered a quick orientation of the vehicle and, in a flash, we were off in a very comfortable automatic SUV. The house manager for Villa Glaros met us on the road to show us the way to the villa – which is important as you’ll never find it otherwise. But, after a few times of driving around this small but glamorous spec of rock in the sea, you’ll know exactly where it’s located. Villa Glaros is the definition of pure peace and you really don’t have to leave the grounds for much. Of course, you’ll want to because Paxos is so amazing. There are several terraces and outdoor perches to enjoy the sun. The perfect day consists of a morning breakfast of Greek yogurt, local fruit, Greek coffee, salads, eggs, cheese and pastry – all lovingly prepared to your liking. After breakfast, you can play a game of tennis, or work-out in the open-air, sea-facing fitness studio before making your way down to the pool or private beach. Paxos is the playground for some of Europe’s most prominent families. And, for your time at Villa Glaros, you’ll feel like one of them. It is really only known by a group of wealthy Athenians who have homes here, and a handful of people from other European countries that have been clued-in over the years. The charming villages, delicious restaurants and lively bars add to an authentic landscape of that Greek island of your dreams, without being overdone. Everything here is simply, natural. Villa Glaros not only offers acres of landscaped grounds to explore, but a tennis court, pre-stocked games, a private beach with some of the most blue water for swimming and accompanying kayaks, paddle boards and a high-powered speed boat to take you to the nearby jewel, Antipaxos. After a few days at the villa and time exploring Paxos, you will want to hire the villa’s captain to shuttle you over to Antipaxos, a 30-minute journey. But, nothing will prepare you for what you’ll find here. I have never seen as electric blue water in the Mediterranean as I have in Antipaxos (photos at the bottom of the article). This island almost resembles the island of Anguilla in the Caribbean and the water here rivals that of French Polynesia. Along your journey you will stop at hidden rock beaches, grottos and swimming areas – all stunning in their own right. Drifting-in to Antipaxos, the tiny sister of Paxos, you’ll be ready for a light Greek lunch and floating around in the pristine lagoon of Voutoumi beach. I loved Antipaxos so much, I went twice while staying at Villa Glaros. And, could have kicked myself for not going a third time. It was just so hard to choose between the serenity of Antipaxos and the perfection of Villa Glaros. While in Paxos, you’ll find yourself exploring small art galleries in Gaios, taking-in market shopping, planning that evening’s meal with the chef and enjoying sunset drinks at Erimitis Bar on the cliffs – the most spectacular place for sunsets. If you go out dancing, you won’t be able to help but be caught-up in the local vibes here, but you’ll want to stop on the terrace of Villa Glaros before bed to look through the telescope and take-in the magnified craters of a blood red moon. Even if your night out was raucous, you’ll somehow pop-up and be ready to go down to the villa’s beach to be revived by the sea. After spending a week on the island of Paxos and after staying at Villa Glaros, I realized how much I truly love Greece. I have been so many times, but this is different. Staying here is like staying at the home of a well-to-do friend “in-the know”, someone who can truly introduce you to something special – even if you’re the most jaded of traveler. When planning that perfect luxury Greek island holiday, Villa Glaros is the only place to look. But, once you experience it, you just might never settle for anything less.

  • St. Barth' Top Luxury Hotel 2021 | Hotel Barriere Le Carl Gustaf

Perched on a slope high above Gustavia, Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustav is the top luxury property on St. Barth today. One of the most special and luxurious offspring in the Groupe Barrière family, this property stands out as the diamond in a well-built crown of other luxury hotels that dot the globe in the collection. A newer addition, being added to the group in 2020, the hotel made a splash and positioned itself as one of the best on an island famous for its white sand beaches, azure waters, phenomenal culinary scene and celebrity devotees. Le Carl Gustav, as those in-the-know affectionately call it, was built with no expense spared and no detail overlooked - and this is evident from the moment you walk through the doors and onto the veranda with a welcome glass of champagne. I was a guest a Le Carl Gustav, invited a few times for both site inspections as a travel planner, as well as a media guest. From my very first visit, I have been in awe at not only the rooms, decor, service and cuisine; but at the laid-back, easy attitude that seems to permeate every space of the hotel. The spaces, both public and private, are done in a French-Caribbean design with the use of creamy whites, warm textures and soft pinks, blues, and greens. The signature red of the group's famed Fouquet's restaurant is integrated as well, but, overall, you feel very much that you are in the Caribbean. The hotel is built in tiers down the slope, beginning with lobby at street level at the top. Walking-in you are greeted immediately by a warm, "Bonjour, bienvenue", and escorted to a private sitting area on the terrace with sweeping views over the breathtaking Gustavia harbour. In an instant, passports are collected and all your pre-arrival details verified - so the entire process takes less that ten minutes to check-in. A welcome cocktail or glass of champagne is offered and soon you find yourself at the front door of your home-away-from-home for the next several days. Walking through the entryway in your room, suite, bungalow suite or villa is enough to stop you in your tracks. Typically, rooms have a cozy and inviting sitting area adorned with wooden furniture, soft pale and pastel fabrics, mini-bar and beverage station as well as sliding glass doors leading out to a terrace. Some suites are equipped with a personal plunge pool (and in-water exercise bike) as well. Through another entryway you'll find the most heavenly bed with matching linens, sumptuous sheets, pillows and side tables with every electrical/charging outlet you can imagine. Again, details! It's clear no stone was left unturned when thinking about guest comfort here. Bathrooms in the rooms and suites are large with walk-in marble showers, double sinks, huge mirrors, heated floors and even toilets that offer a bidet for that extra little feeling of cleanliness. The rooms are run and operated off an iPad and you can do everything here from closing your blinds to ordering special pillows, cocktails and room service. It's all very technologically advanced and easy for guests to locate and request what they want. I used the iPad every morning to order a stunning french breakfast which comes with homemade pastries, juice, fruit, yogurt and a selection of hot dishes. My recommendation is to opt for the French toast which is decadent and probably one of the best I've ever had. The mini bar in the room is perfect for making cocktails of any kind, grabbing a quick glass of wine or filling your water glass. It's refilled daily and only offers the most premium spirits, wine and water for guests. Le Carl Gustav is special in that it feels as if you have the entire place to yourself. The rooms and suites are all shrouded in lush palms and flowers, so you don't have to worry about neighbors when you're relaxing outside near your private plunge pool. The steps that lead from the lower street and up to the rooms are lined with palms as well and the entire place feels like a little paradise garden in the middle of town. The location of Le Carl Gustav is perfect as you can walk throughout Gustavia to the many restaurants, bars, shops and beaches with nearly no effort at all. Popping-down to a Greek lunch at Shellona on the famed Shell Beach is a must, or, simply sipping a glass of rosé at Arawak between boutique visits. Le Carl Gustav will valet your vehicle for when you need it to explore the island, but operating by foot is one of the unique features this hotel has to offer. While staying at Le Carl Gustav you must eat one night at the iconic Fouquet's on property. The stunning sunset views over gustavia cannot be matched and this Caribbean outpost of the famous Parisian eatery and hotel offers a fine dining experience you won't regret. The signature cocktails are all delicious and dishes like the Sole Meunière, Angus Beef Filet or the Linguine Carbonara will impress even the most jaded of foodies. The hotel's spa, Spa Diane Barrière, is perfect for a massage or facial. The therapists are all expertly trained and use only the best in skincare products. In fact, my very favorite skincare line, Biologique-Recherche, is the line of choice for the spa and the therapists are trained in the signature lifting and remodeling facials - to help keep your sun-kissed skin tight, fresh and revitalized. Spending time at Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustav is the perfect getaway from your daily hustle and bustle. But, it's not just perfect as an island retreat, but in the details and those details are what differentiate it from the other hotels on the island. In a place where 5-star is the standard, how does an entity truly stand out? Le Carl Gustav has found the recipe to do just that and that is why those who experience it come back for more, and more, and more. There truly isn't a better address on the island.

  • The Top Red Zinfandel Maker Of 2020 | Beekeeper Cellars

Winemakers Ian Blackburn and Clay Mauritson are true talents, and their work at Beekeeper Cellars stands out as producing the very best zinfandel of 2020. It’s rare that we come across a collection of wine that truly exceeds expectation and elevates a varietal to another level in our heads. This is exactly what Beekeeper has done, and that is no easy task. The Sonoma County based operation focuses on zinfandel, and the wines they produce are all complex, unique and some of the best we’ve tasted in the world. We’re not the only ones who think so, as Beekeeper’s wines are lauded by wine-specific publications throughout the country. Zinfandel has received a bad wrap for years, and the duo at Beekeeper Cellars have put in the effort with their rockpile vineyard and delicate winemaking, to completely turn the reputation on its head and re-introduce the luxury-minded wine drinker to zinfandel. Ian and Clay are best friends and they operate in a co-partnership that began with a chunk of land planted in the 90’s. As the vineyard grew and matured, the Beekeeper mantra and mission took shape. Ian runs a wine marketing organization in Los Angeles and has been in the business for over 20 years. The two friends are the perfect duo and its no surprise that the fruits of their labor are so elegant and poignant. We were lucky to sample four varieties from Beekeeper Cellars. Zinfandel, Montecillo Vineyard, Sonoma County 2016 2016 was a great year in Sonoma County and the winemakers recognize this. The near perfect weather allowed for good maturation and created the perfect platform to produce something special. The winemakers tasting notes notice amazing balance and purity along combined exaggerated hang-time and provided profound color saturation. Blue and purple toned fruit skins, fresh cracked black pepper, and broader than normal character and capacity will mark 2016 as an “A+” quality vintage. And, the vintage was aged in French oak. We were absolutely in love with this wine. Zinfandel, Montecillo Vineyard, Sonoma County 2015 Cool weather in 2015 made for low yields in Sonoma. The winemakers say that this juicy, rich, textural 2015 hillside wine boasts defined cherry, blueberry and plum skin character, with assertive cracked pepper and spice. Beekeeper makes wines that showcase both high standards and high quality fruit designations. The strict grape selection minimizes the jammy character that often masks the qualities of a top vineyard site . The high-tier aging and blending (Petite Sirah and press fractions) allows Beekeeper to find the wine’s inner balance specific to the winery. This one was our very favorite. Zinfandel, Secret Stones, Rockpile, Sonoma County 2015 Cool weather in 2015 made for low yields in Sonoma County. The winemakers say that the resulting blend displays a highly spiced set of concentrated dried fruits, fresh cracked black pepper, patient pending “purple crayon” perfume, dried underbrush, and bitter sweet chocolate. The step high altitude hillsides provide defined stoney minerality characteristics, and add to the complexed nose that will continue to evolve in the bottle. The minerality in this wine gives it the perfect finish. Zinfandel, Secret Stones, Rockpile, Sonoma County 2016 2016 was a great year in Sonoma County and the winemakers recognize this. There are many places that offer Ultherapy, so what makes the difference between a good and a great experience? The facility and the technician make all the difference, and they’re not all created equal. MedSpa 44 offers a slew of services, but their elegant and calming space is the perfect place to unwind and find comfort during a procedure that can last up to two hours. The lead technician at MedSpa 44, Carmen, has worked in the industry for decades and has performed thousands of Ultherapy treatments. Her skill at analyzing your face and finding areas to target, is superb. With her skilled hand and ability to customize the treatment for areas that need more TLC than others, your treatment is very specialized. On the day of my procedure, I arrived and Carmen analyzed my face. I took two Advil prior to the appointment and was offered something to calm my nerves and relax me. I accepted and Carmen got to work. She was patient throughout the entire procedure and took her time around my problem areas. She focused on my jawline, neck, brows and eyes. It wasn’t a comfortable procedure, but it wasn’t painful either. I left the office without so much as redness or swelling and went about my day normally. I felt guided through the entire process and safe, which is important. Ultherapy begins to take effect immediately, but your skin will slowly tighten over a period of 6 months, so patience is key. Carmen explained all of this to me and made sure I was well-educated on the subject. I enjoyed MedSpaa 44’s service-oriented practices and approach towards clients. For anyone in New York looking for a treatment that will yield dramatic results and a technician who is extremely knowledgeable, please see Carmen at MedSpa44 for Ultherapy. You won’t regret it. I will be documenting my results at the 6-month mark, and you’ll see just how effective Ultherapy is. Photos provided by Merz Aesthetics

  • Hermanus' Coziest Oceanfront Property | The Marine Hotel

The idyllic town of Hermanus is beloved by South Africans for its charming downtown and beautiful beaches, and The Marine is in the middle of it all. The hotel is situated directly on the coast, very close to town. It stands whitewashed against the grey mountain backdrop, green sea grasses and the churning blue South Atlantic in the backdrop. Driving-in to the entryway, you’re instantly greeted by the staff as they make their way out of the front door and into the drive to say, “Hello”. In this instant, you feel as if you’re home. The hotel is always buzzing, but in an elegant and exciting way. The public areas are filled with guests discussing that day’s whale sightings and sipping a glass of red from the nearby Hemel-en-Arde valley, which translates from Afrikaans to English as Heaven on Earth, and that’s exactly what it is. The check-in is easy and you’re led to your room quickly, which is a delight. The exterior of the hotel features an incredible array of lawns, gardens, pools, fountain and sitting areas. It feels almost as if you’ve stumbled upon a Utopia of relaxation, outfitted with two saltwater pools, spa and private beach baths for hiking around the coast. And, in this Utopia, the only directive is to simply enjoy yourself, soaking-in the salty air and letting yourself get back to nature. On property, you can enjoy breakfast at The Pavillion, which is one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve seen in a while. The fresh pressed juices, yogurts, baked goods and eggs are all done to perfection. Sitting in the room with a hot cappuccino is pure heaven. Dinner can be had at the casual yet elegant, Origins. Head Chef Tronette Dippenaar does a fantastic job of assembling ingredients from nearby farms and offering sharing-style tapas, appetizers and main courses – which consist of some of the best South African flavors in the area.I absolutely loved the South African cheese board as well as the fresh muscles sourced from just around the corner. Carchele Beauty Spa is the perfect place to relax. I did just that and indulged in a much needed massage. The tranquil space is located near one of the pools and evokes a calm with the rumbling of the ocean in the distance. My room at The Marine was large, with a bedroom, sitting room and private terrace overlooking the sea. The room featured a fireplace, huge bathroom, writing desk and bed so comfortable, it took all of might might each morning to pry myself out of it. I couldn’t help but be taken over by the good energy here, and was able to truly relax. The service was impeccable at The Marine and the staff did all they could to ensure a pleasant stay. I must admit I love a luxury hotel, but especially one that is authentically warm and cozy. The Marine is it. When planning your trip to South Africa, you cannot overlook its charms.

  • Cape Town's Luxury Hidden Gem Hotel | Cellars-Hohenort

The Cellars-Hohenort , in the leafy suburb of Constantia, in Cape Town, is a stunning and cozy respite from the city’s busy V&A waterfront. As you drive through the gates, you feel like you’re entering your own private estate, on acres and acres of stunning gardens, lit perfectly with the bright light that floods this city, yet shaded by centuries-old trees that seem to have been here since time began. Cellars-Hohenort is part of the Liz McGrath Collection, a group of unique properties throughout the country of South Africa, and it’s run like a family home. The staff here remember your name, as this was my third visit, I was greeted with a very warm, “Hello, Mr. Berklich”, as soon as I walked through the front door. Peering out through the lobby, which is decorated like a fine British country estate, your eyes fall of the hotel’s gardens, fountains and small vineyard that surround the property. There are small decorative moments you notice as you stroll through the corridors, and areas to sit, sip a glass of wine and catch up with friends. Rooms are large, and incredibly comfortable. Each room feels like a small cottage, some with fireplaces, garden views, large bathrooms, the most comfortable beds and coffee makers. You could spend your entire trip here wrapped-up in a throw on the sofa, enjoying the serenity that envelopes this place. The rooms are spread out across the property and there are several buildings that make up the entirety of the hotel. Each one has its own character and charm. There is a pool on site for swimming and relaxing, along with two restaurants – the casual but delicious Conservatory, as well as the fantastic fine dining option, Greenhouse. The meals here use mainly local ingredients and are inspired by both South African and international flavors. Service at Cellars-Hohenort is on-point. There isn’t a beat that they miss, and the tea here is incredibly friendly, warm and genuinely welcoming. They will do anything they can to make your stay enjoyable. This hidden gem, set back in a mainly residential area of Cape Town mustn’t be missed. If you’re coming to the city, please do not miss it.

  • Cape Town From Above With NAC Helicopters

NAC Helicopters is a fabulous experience in the city of Cape Town, allowing you to take-in breathtaking scenery from above. Located just near the iconic Waterfront, NAC Helicopters takes you on either a private or group flight above the city to see everything it has to offer. My ride lasted about 30 minutes, where I was flown over the City Bowl and out over the water towards Cape Point. My pilot was a local and very knowledgeable about the city. I have been to Cape Town ten times, and I still learned more about the suburbs that sprawl out from Table Mountain and down the coastline. Seeing some of the incredible surfing spots was a highlight, as well as being taken over the mountain and out into the Constantia vineyards. My flight was eventful, safe and, most of all, enjoyable. You can’t miss this while in town.
