  • New York's Skin Wizard And Beauty Insider | An Interview With Dr. Jeremy Brauer

Dr. Jeremy Brauer is New York’s top dermatologist, especially for those seeking help with anti-aging. Armed with the most technologically advanced tools in the field, he can customize a treatment program for you that will help slow the aging process and dramatically make a difference in your appearance. A clinical associate professor at NYU in New York and with affiliations at some of the world’s leading institutions and hospitals in New York City, his credentials are unrivaled by many others in his field. So, don’t mistake his being an expert in anti-aging with the idea that he doesn’t treat other skin concerns as well. In fact, he knows your skin inside and out – and is a very observant. He can detect skin cancer and other infections and diseases of the skin – and he takes them very seriously. New York is loaded with dermatologists, but I trust my skin with his knowledge and know-how. Dr. Brauer perfectly marries traditional, medically-based dermatology with the best of anti-aging. He’s conservative in his approach, and truly looks at each patient’s face and body, and the skin that covers it, as a canvas. I visited Dr. Brauer’s office, he works in two offices in New York City as well as one in Westchester County. I’ve known him for years, and have entrusted my skin to him. Over the course of those years, we’ve developed treatment plans that have addressed skin tone, laxity, acne scarring and other concerns as well. Dr. Brauer works with an array of machines, lasers, dermal fillers and more – all utilized together to help you achieve your highest potential. Dr. Brauer uses various dermal fillers, but this day, he was using Belotero and Radiesse , by Merz Aesthetics. Both Belotero and Radiesse are dermal fillers, and they can be used individually or together to fill-in scars, address laxity or volume loss and help enhance your overall appearance. I was there to help address acne scarring in my temples, which I’ve also treated through Dr. Brauer with Fraxel lasers. Dr. Brauer chose Belotero, because this filler is thinner and is perfect to be used on a superficial scar – as it sits better in the scar and helps the scar look less noticeable or completely nonexistent all together. To address a small bit of volume loss in my cheeks, the doctor chose Radiesse – which is calcium based, lasts longer (up to three years) and mimics bone. It’s typically placed deeper in the skin near, or on the bone. After my particular treatment, which lasted about an hour with pre-numbing, I instantly looked more refreshed and rejuvenated. I had very minimal bruising, as Dr. Brauer is very careful and cautious – and was ready for dinner that evening with no one really noticing the difference, other than that I looked my best self. His bedside manner is fantastic. He’s friendly, kind and knows what he’s doing. After my treatment, I interviewed Dr. Brauer on his philosophy when treating, and his approach when it comes to anti-aging. This is what he said: IC: What is your ethos when dealing with patients and approaching their aesthetic goals? JB: When teaching medical students and residents about the Doctor-patient relationship, I always emphasize the ability to listen. What is the patient telling you – or not telling you? Both with their choice of words but also body language. Before jumping to a diagnosis or treatment, it’s most important to take the time to understand why your patient has really come to see you and what their true concerns are. Then you can begin to discuss how best to address them. This is especially true with “cosmetic” patients and their goals. I believe in looking as natural as possible. The goal of cosmetic treatment should be to have those around you comment about how relaxed or refreshed you look, and not take one look and inquire, “What did you have done?” IC: What is the cosmetic dermatological procedure or treatment most everyone can benefit from? JB: Unless there is a known contraindication, the easiest thing everyone can do is appropriate apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen during the day and a retinol-containing product in the evenings. One specific procedure that I feel similarly about is non-ablative fractional resurfacing. Not only has a series of these treatments been clinically proven to reduce the number pre-cancerous lesions, it also stimulates new collagen and reduces pigmentation – improving the overall texture and appearance of the skin. IC: What are a few of your favorite cosmetic innovations in dermatology that are new to the market? JB: Picosecond technology is perhaps the latest innovation in the field of laser and cosmetic dermatology. These lasers were initially developed and studied for the removal of tattoos and pigmentation. We have since discovered that they are just as, if not more effective in the improvement of overall texture and appearance of the skin – treating fine lines and acne scars in addition to pigmentation. IC: What is your “Golden Rule” with filler? More? Less? Any particular filler substance you love to work with? JB: Beyond the saying itself – I would never perform a procedure on a patient that I didn’t feel was as safe or effective enough to perform on myself or loved ones – it would be, “Do No Harm.” While we can only minimize and not completely eliminate the inherent risks of these procedures, this belief is paramount in the selection of the appropriate patient, indication, and product. That being said, every approach is tailored to the individual, their goals and their anatomy, and I use different filler products (often in combination) in different areas to conservatively address those goals. IC: Of all the lasers available, which is best to aid with scarring? Which is best for wrinkles? Sun damage? JB: Techniques and technologies continue to improve and I believe there are several devices – alone or in combination – that can offer an individual excellent results with scarring. There are several factors involved including characteristics of the patient, of the scar (texture, pigment, vascularity for example), that would help guide that selection. IC: Is there any trick or procedure combination best to treat scars? JB: Depending on the scar characteristics, combination of one or more lasers or devices with filler or other injectable agents is generally the rule and not the exception when it comes to the best treatment approach for scarring. IC: Is there any trick or procedure combination best to treat sagging? JB: I’m not sure I have enough space to fully address this question. However I’ll do my best! The aging face (which ultimately shows itself with sagging skin amongst other things) is the result of multiple changes to your anatomy that are both genetic and environmental (diet, stress, sun exposure, gravity). Bone loss, fat redistribution, changes in the skin (such as decrease of collagen and elastic fibers and increase in elastosis (due to the sun)) all contribute to sagging skin. Therefore the optimal approach is absolutely a combination of treatments that appropriately addresses these changes. Dr. Brauer can be seen through his own private practices and partnerships at Dr. Paul Frank’s office in New York, as well as at Gendler Dermatology in New York.

  • The Morning Coffee And Lifestyle Ritual That Will Change Your Life | Bulletproof

Bulletproof is not just a coffee, it’s a lifestyle. These coffees, foods, proteins and drinks that you’ve undoubtedly heard of, are all part of a movement really. This movement is aimed at helping you operate at your peak performance level physically and mentally. Aside from being innovative in their approach and in their ingredient selection, Bulletproof ensures that flavor is of utmost importance as well. Founded through a vision of cognitive performance by Dave Asprey, the idea of being “Bulletproof” means high resiliency, high energy and being made of steel. It was Dave’s vision that every person is made to be kind and fight to be limitless in their own life, that led Bulletproof to where it is today – a movement, mindset and product line that is loved by celebrities and business leaders around the world. Bulletproof began with Bulletproof Coffee – the mixture of pure, chemical and pollutant-free coffee with grass-fed, organic butter or ghee and Brain Octane Oil. This combination, when combined, helps you build sustained energy throughout the day, feel less hungry, absorb healthy fats and stay away from toxins that are typically found in many other whole-bean and ground coffees throughout the world. In fact, Bulletproof Coffee’s whole-bean and ground coffees are independently lab tested for over 27 toxins that have the ability to rob your performance. I tried the recipe for Bulletproof Coffee, along with their ready made coffees and cold brew varieties, and the result was the same. I felt energized longer and wasn’t nearly as hungry as I normally am throughout the day, keeping cravings for those midday unhealthy snacks to a minimum. The Brain Octane Oil, which is derived from Coconut oil and sourced for it being that most readily available MCT that is converted into ketone energy to be used by your brain, is key in helping you perform throughout the day. Aside from the famed coffee and coffee recipe, Bulletproof has unleashed a slew of other products that address energy and your overall wellness. One of my favorite products is the protein with collagen, perfect for those who work out and want to increase their overall protein intake – as well as support your skin. I love the cold brew ready-to-drink beverages, which also feature the Brain Octane Oil and grass-fed ghee. Bulletproof protein collagen bars are stellar, with favors like apple pie and pumpkin spice. They’re really a great on-the-go snack with well-curated ingredients that make for the ultimate protein and skin boost. Bulletproof’s vitamin complexes are all great as well, but I personally love the Fat Water – which combines spring water with micro-droplets of Brain Octane Oil with B Vitamins – a true high-performance water. Integrating Bulletproof into your life will welcome a host of health and performance benefits. But, start with the coffee. You will notice the difference, you will notice a change in your focus and energy – but naturally, not with pharmaceuticals. Aren’t we all looking to change for the better when possible? I am, and this movement has helped me.

  • Mexico's Exclusive and Gated Coastal Retreat | Punta Mita

An hour north of Puerto Vallarta lies a pair of gates. And, inside those gates sits 1,500 manicured acres of pristine land, luxurious resorts, delicious restaurants, idyllic beaches and an array of activities. These gates are your entry point to Punta Mita , Mexico’s true hidden gem luxury – a resort so well-thought-out that you won’t want to visit anywhere else once you’ve experienced it. I traveled to Punta Mita for three nights. I stayed at the beautiful Four Seasons . Within the Punta Mita resort, you’ll find both The Four Seasons and The St. Regis. But, I chose The Four Seasons. Punta Mita is the hideaway to those “in the know”, whether you’re the head of a tech giant, Hollywood celebrity or just someone who wants access to “the best” at all times. As the gates open you are instantly transported into a world of calm, beauty and relaxation. The long central road is indeed beautiful, shaded by swaying palms and century’s old Banyan trees; but rolling-up to the entry of The Four Seasons punctuates your trip perfectly. The Four Seasons has been here for quite some time, anchoring Punta Mita in the luxury hotel space. The resort is spread out and golf carts are the preferred mode of transportation. Each room and suite, 173 in total, are outfitted beautifully – many with views of the sea, comfortable beds, coffee and tea makers, ample bathrooms and a spacious living area. The resort is set to renovate the rooms sometime in the near future, to help further modernize the private and public spaces on property. The resort offers guests everything they need for a Mexican retreat. This includes three outdoor swimming pools, Apuane spa, access to two Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses, a multitude of indoor/outdoor dining experiences, private beaches and an array of amenities. The spaces, both public and private at The Four Seasons, are light, airy and manage to mix authentic Mexican art with a chic, beachside aesthetic. My room was spacious, and featured a garden view – but the property offers many different room categories – including oceanfront villas with up to five bedrooms. Punta Mita, as a resort in its entirety, offers so much for those staying within the gates. If you’re not hanging out by the pool at The Four Seasons sipping expertly crafted margaritas, you can take part in a private tennis lesson at the tennis center, go deep sea fishing, take a surfing lesson with a surf champion or practice your golf swing. I experienced it all in my three days. The weather was perfect so I started my morning warming-up by hitting a few balls on the golf course and then moved on to a surfing lesson. Surfing isn’t easy, but after a few tries with surf champion Fernando Stalla as my coach, I seemed to get the hang of it. For those with children, Punta Mita offers surf camps, led by Mr. Stalla, and other activities to keep your kids happy and busy during the day. And, for those looking for a kid-free vacation – don’t worry – the area is big enough where you can enjoy a quiet adults-only pool for pure peace and quiet. After about three days, I started to get into the Punta Mita mindset – an uncluttered head and the ability to just let go and enjoy the nature that seems to envelope this place. The sound of the crashing ocean waves became my preferred background music, as opposed to my Spotify playlist. The rustling of the palms and sound of sand dispersing under my feet on my morning beach walks became my moment of zen. It all felt so good. Service at The Four Seasons and service within Punta Mita, in general, is phenomenal. The staff are all extremely friendly and want to know more about you. They tend to know your name by the end of day-one and you will know their story by the end of your vacation. And, what interesting stories they have. For those looking for the ultimate escape, Punta Mita is it. Here you’re secure, relaxed, looked-after and truly in a hidden little chunk of paradise on the Pacific coast. If you really fall in love with the place, don’t worry, you never have to leave. Punta Mita offers luxury condos and custom homes for rent and purchase within the gates. You can call Punta Mita home, if you wish. For those who just plan on returning as a guest, The Four Seasons and St. Regis are ready for you. Whatever you decide, you just can’t go wrong here.

  • The Caribbean's Top Luxury Villa Rental Service | WIMCO

Imagine a luxury rental service that offers you the most beautiful, luxurious and impressive homes, across the Caribbean for rent – and then imagine that service wrapped with services that make your stay seamless and effortless, in every way. That is what you’ll find at the core of luxury villa rental service, WIMCO . And, with the Caribbean, namely St. Martin and St. Barths, back in action after the devastating hurricane that blew through in 2017, now’s the time to explore what they have to offer. I recently worked with WIMCO and their portfolio of properties for a stay on the idyllic island of St. Barths. WIMCO suggested the stunning Villa Fleur de Cactus for my stay, which was chosen by them from their extensive collection of properties. I’ve been to St. Barths many times, but this was my first time back to the island after the hurricane. Upon securing my rental, I was emailed by my dedicated concierge to welcome me to the WIMCO family, and to secure my preferences for my arrival. WIMCO was very organized throughout the process. I was emailed a preference form, which helped the team on the island get my thoughts on how I’d like the villa to “be” upon my arrival. The concierge offered to do some pre-arrival shopping for me, which included stocking the refrigerator with breakfast items, water, wine, champagne and anything else I wanted. The day I arrived, I flew from St. Maarten to St. Barths’ small and convenient airport on St. Barths Commuter . The airline is my favorite for their fast check-in at Princess Juliana Airport, excellent service and quick seven-minute flight from island to island. I was met by my WIMCO concierge at the airport who was holding a sign with my name. He quickly helped me with my bags and led me to the Hertz car rental kiosk at the airport to assist me with my car rental. With each villa rental through WIMCO, guests are provided a car rental as part of the experience – which is needed on the island. We quickly collected the car and I followed my concierge up the hill and away from Gustavia. Perched on a hill with views of the sea that seemed to never end, I walked into Villa Fleur de Cactus and was knocked over by what I saw. Spacious, grand, elegant yet comfortable – this villa was the perfect home base to explore the island and celebrate the recovery from the hurricane that took nearly a year to achieve. Spread over two floors, Villa Fleur de Cactus offered three huge bedrooms – two on the entry (top) floor and one on the lower floor. Each bedroom has unobstructed views of the island and Caribbean, massive bathrooms, ample closets and the coziest of beds. The bathrooms in the bedrooms are my absolute favorite with their sexy glass-walled showers, hidden corners and mood lighting. But, as much as the house impresses on the inside with the whitewashed furnishings, chef’s kitchen and bar area – the outside living area is what really takes the cake. Stepping outside you’ll find balconies, living rooms and dining tables – perfect for family dinners, entertaining and more. Throughout my stay, my WIMCO concierge checked on me through WhatsApp. He offered to deliver more groceries, make dinner reservations and even help me gain entry into the island’s most exclusive night spots. My favorite part of the outside living space at Villa Fleur de Cactus was the built-in bar, located next to the pool. You can swim right up to the bar and enjoy a cocktail in the shade of the overhang, never taking your swim suit off and peering over the hills and sea. St. Barths went through a recovery period that saw the closure of most hotels and eateries on the island. It took months to rebuild and months to restore what was damaged. With the help of the community and international friends of the island, St. Barths saw a successful cleanup and is now ready for guests. Basing yourself in a villa through WIMCO allows you to enjoy the island from the comfort of your own home, while exploring all the places people have grown to love. You can stop for lunch at Shellona Beach , grab a delicious piece of coconut cake from Maya’s To Go and take-in a show in the evening at Le Ti . WIMCO offers properties on islands such as Turks and Caicos, St. John, St. Barths and more. They also offer impressive places in Europe and North America. What makes the biggest impression renting through WIMCO is the attention to detail and how easy everything is. All of your needs and wants are a quick phone call a way – someone with show-up to fix a problem, show you where a light switch is or help you make plans to be sure your trip as fun as it can be. You won’t find a better villa rental service on the island.

  • Caribbean Comeback | Spotlight On St. Martin

St. Martin , the French-side of a French-Dutch island in the middle of the shimmering blue Caribbean, was devastated in 2017 by a passing hurricane. But, now, after one-year of energy, love and rebuilding directed toward the island, it’s back and ready to welcome guests who crave a luxury travel moment. The French side of St. Maarten/St. Martin has always been known as the chicest – of course. The quiet beaches, the private villas overlooking serene bays, French bakeries that line the streets of Grand-Case or small jewelry stores scattered throughout the area – they all come together to exude an ambiance that is incredibly subtle and lovely. St. Martin was indeed crippled by the hurricane that came through in 2017, a moment that made those who love this island and who live and work here stop and catch themselves in excruciating pain. Not only is this place a beloved spot in the sea for tourists who come year after year, but for locals who are an integral part of the fabric that make-up St. Martin’s charm. It was they who lost businesses, homes, possessions and dignity. But, with the strength of their spirit and dedication to returning to a normal life, they rebuilt stronger and, some might say, even better. I visited St. Martin recently and stayed at a private home overlooking Orient Bay. I didn’t know what to expect when I arrived, but was curious to see how far they had come. I arrived at Princess Juliana Airport, on the Dutch side of the island, and realized that the airport had been effected. The terminal, currently being restored, was set-up in a make-shift white tent that housed passenger waiting areas, customs, security and more. I was collected at the airport and driven across to the French side St. Martin, where things appeared to be in better shape. Although the airport is fine to fly in and out of, and most carriers having resumed normal operations to the island, it’s clear it has a long way to go before looking like a “normal” airport. I spent five days on St. Martin, never leaving the French side of the island. I wanted to feel the place and imbed myself into the fabric as a local and visitor. I was surprised and overjoyed at just how wonderful that experience was and how far the island has come. Luxury travelers who gravitate toward St. Martin will find that everything you could want or need is up and running. Whether you are yearning for a private villa experience and want to rent something beautiful on the sea, or stay at the famed Belmond La Samanna (reopening December 10, 2018), you can design your St. Martin experience whichever way you’d like. I stayed in a private villa, and it was heaven. Since the island is reemerging, now is the time to visit. You will have many beautiful beaches and attractions all to yourself. For travelers who would like to visit now, and now is absolutely the time, there is a whole host of things you can do to enjoy St. Martin. Choosing accommodations is key, as we love the Belmond re-opening in December, but staying in a private villa or home is ideal for privacy and for the feeling of living like a local. But, many of these homes provide housekeepers, chefs on demand and other concierge services for your needs – so you’re not missing out on a luxury experience. While on the island, take a boat trip to Pinel Island and Tintamarre Island for a private day at the beach. Walk the streets of Marigot to visit art galleries, shop or sample incredible French/Creole cuisine at Lucy’s. Visit Loterie Farm , in Pic Paradis, for the day to hike the trails, glide over tree tops or have an incredible lunch. Pack a picnic lunch from one of the many gourmet bakeries in Orient Bay or Grand Case and head to the beach with a bottle of Rosé. Or, visit Tijon to create your own custom perfume. There’s so much to do here to keep you busy for days. After five days on the island, and spending that time between exploration and water-related activities it was clear that St. Martin is ready for travelers. There are many islands in the Caribbean Sea that offer unique appeal, but St. Martin’s French-ness and way of life is most intriguing. You won’t find that on many other islands, especially wrapped in the natural beauty that exists here. Make your plans to visit the island now, before word gets out and everyone begins to make those exact same plans.

  • The Only Luxury Hotel Worth Staying On Mahé | The Four Seasons Seychelles

On the capital island of a remote Indian Ocean archipelago off the coast of Madagascar, The Four Seasons Mahé waits. Situated on one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen, with villas and public buildings cascading down the lush green hills to the sea – this hotel makes an instant visual impact as soon as you arrive. But, it’s not just the beauty that will captivate you here. The Four Seasons Mahé was the first Four Seasons property in the Seychelles and it remains one of the most famous in the world. 67 villas and 5 suites, all with infinity pools, act as your private haven within this compound. You can wake-up, peer out the endless glass and out to the sea just in time to catch a rainbow appear before breakfast. I stayed three nights here and was completely enchanted. The design of the hotel is perfect. Utilizing local materials and referencing Creole architecture that exists natively in the islands, the design element here is perfectly in tune with the environment. You’ll find a stunning mountaintop spa with huge treatment rooms with views of the sea and beach, a cliffside breakfast pavilion with delicious local and international fare, a beachside dinner and lunch spot serving some of the best seafood you’ll ever taste and a beach bar that is just in the right spot for you to move barely an inch for an oceanside cocktail and snack. Of course The Four Seasons is known for service and that is not any different on Mahé. The staff here is naturally warm, many who are from the islands and tend to stop and talk to you, wishing you a pleasant day or good morning. The front desk and concierge team work in tandem to help guests make the most of the resort and the islands. They’ll set-up a private driver for you to explore various art boutiques, make a dinner reservation somewhere special or even help you surprise a special someone on property with an intimate dinner or on-water experience. After flying a very long distance from New York, via Addis Ababa, on Ethiopian Airlines , I was ready to relax. I was welcomed with a bottle of champagne in my villa and one of the most beautiful fruit baskets I’ve ever seen – filled to the brim with tropical offerings from the island. My Sunset Villa was stocked impeccably. The living space was incredible, set-up with two queen beds draped in white linens. There was a living room with a sofa, a bar with Nespresso machine, snacks, beverages and more and even an entry way that allowed me to kick of my shoes and not drag sand from the beach into the space. But, my favorite element of the villa was the bathroom. I don’t think I’ve seen a sexier bathroom, flanked completely in glass with views of the forest and sea . The glass shower ebbed against the infinity pool where, if you were staying with a special someone, they could swim around and be a part of that experience. I chose to dine within the property for two of the three nights. Each dinner was exceptional and focused heavily on seafood. But, one could embrace international dishes like homemade pastas, beef and more. I personally loved the catch of the day, as, what better place could I choose that plate for dinner? I’ve always been partial to carbohydrates, so I did indulge in a pizza for lunch one day. But, the absolute best lunch dish, especially on the beach, was the tuna basket. Ahi tuna paired with seasonal vegetables and rice make for an amazing snack midday. As a guest at The Four Seasons Mahé please take a moment and spend part of your day at the spa. The body scrubs and massages are stellar, and the outdoor showers, with views of the boulder-clad beach will take your breath away. This resort is the true definition of paradise – period. There aren’t many other places that can compare and not many other places that are as effortlessly chic, yet still as comfortable. The Four Seasons Mahé is the only place to stay on the island – at least in my opinion.

  • The Seychelles Newest Private Island Retreat | The Four Seasons At Desroches Island

Cast away on an island in the most Southern reaches of the African archipelago of The Seychelles, lies the brand new Four Seasons Desroches . The private island is completely operated by The Four Seasons, but is owned by a private individual who also inherited a small Creole community native to the place. So, as a guest here, you can indulge in a stunning, five-star property, take-in a little culture and walk with ancient, giant tortoises that roam free in the forests. The Four Seasons at Desroches Island is special – there’s no doubt. It’s located about an hour flight on a privately chartered plane from the capital island of Mahé. The journey is easy, as The Four Seasons has staff at the international airport who will help you get to the right terminal and board the plane for your flight. And, after a short jaunt, paradise. I stayed here for three nights. My stay was supposed to be two evenings, but I lucked-out when my flight was cancelled back to Mahé due to weather. Another night for me meant more relaxation and more time to take-in this gorgeous place. Landing on Desroches, is very different than landing on Mahé. Desroches is flat, as compared to Mahé’s hills and mountains. But, on this flat island, you have endless beaches and little areas to get lost. Upon landing, I was welcomed by a row of staff on the airstrip waving at the plane as we flew in. I deplaned and was instantly met with smiles and handshakes, a hot towel and cold beverage. After a speedy check-in I was taken right to my villa. The villas here are mostly situated directly on the beach, which, you have all to yourself. The white sand is soft, the water is clear and the breeze warm. My villa took my breath away – honestly. The design and use of natural materials with a chic, African influence was perfection. The villa featured a large entry with living room, dining table and bar stocked with beverages, a Nespresso machine, fresh waters, juices, etc. The main sleeping area was anchored by the most comfortable king-size bed with luxurious linens, a private patio and a small desk. There was another room off the main sleeping area with an office and a smaller bed for a child or guest. Above the desk hung painted and hand-drawn postcards from the hotel. It was an elegant touch. My villa featured the largest bathroom “compound” I think I’ve ever seen in any of the properties I’ve stayed at across the globe. In the center, a large stone bathtub welcomed you in for a soak and on each side there were no less than three vanities and two washrooms, each with its own toilet. But, for those with a shower fetish – three of them were in this villa – two inside and one outside. I spent most of my time on Desroches learning about the island. I visited with the local creole people who live in the village, hand-fed the wild 300-year-old tortoise named George and walked every beach twice. I filled my days collecting shells, running after cute little crabs and sitting poolside in my private, elegant pool pavilion on the front lawn of my villa. It couldn’t get more idyllic. The food at The Four Seasons Desroches was excellent. There are several options when choosing a place for lunch or dinner. You can keep it casual with local dishes at Claudine, or actually run a brush through your hair and dress-up for The Lighthouse. I love them both, but The Lighthouse is my favorite – as it’s located in an actual lighthouse at the tip of the island. The ambiance is noteworthy. When you’re by the pool or by the beach, the staff visit you with menus full of tropical cocktails and little bites to nibble on, which, combined with sun and sand, make for the perfect afternoon. When my flight was cancelled a storm was rolling-in. I had enough sun at that point, and welcomed a few clouds to protect my skin from looking like a complete leather handbag. The Four Seasons was completely prepared with movie rentals, board games and much more to offer guests in case the weather turned. I wasn’t worried in the slightest and had an incredible evening, even with the rain. The Four Seasons at Desroches Island is a haven for those who seek sun, sand, beauty, nature and the opportunity to completely disconnect. Everything is catered to you here, and they don’t miss a beat. It’s worth the journey, it’s worth the price tag and I promise it will be one of the most memorable trips of your life.

  • Oregon's Chicest Vineyard Hotel | The Black Walnut Inn And Vineyard

The Black Walnut Inn and Vineyard is a hilltop oasis in the Dundee Hills of Oregon, just 30 minutes from downtown Portland. A Willamette Valley gem, this hotel feels like a private villa set within lush, green hills and forests of Douglas Firs. I was a guest at the property recently, and was incredibly impressed with not only its location, but the service, decor and homemade food churned out from the kitchen. The rooms at The Black Walnut Inn and Vineyard are large, well-decorated with sumptuous furniture and cozy beds and luxurious bathrooms. The views from every window here go on as far as the eye can see, and with a cup of coffee in hand as the morning mist gives way to the warmth of the sun – you won’t find a happier place to be. Whether milling around the property during the day or during the evening, you will find something to enjoy. During chillier months, there are crackling fires to sit by. Summer months offer outdoor vistas and vineyard dinners with stunning wine tastings. You’ll sample some of the area’s best pinot noir and chardonnay here, and settle into a slower way of life – one where you can truly let go and relax. My favorite part of the day at The Black Walnut Inn and Vineyard is breakfast. And, oh what an event it is. Breakfast is on another level, simple but satisfying. Served on handmade plates and consisting of mostly ingredients sourced within a five mile radius, you might indulge in farm-fresh scrambled eggs, crispy smashed potatoes or quite literally the best blueberry muffin I’ve ever tasted. The dining room is always a lively place to be, where piping-hot cappuccinos are served and chatter of that day’s vineyard tasting itineraries are being looked over. Typically, after a day out in the valley, I came back to the property for a fireside chat and a glass of pinot. I often retired to my room early with my guests for a game of cards or charades. The staff at The Black Walnut Inn and Vineyard are very detail oriented. They are casual in nature, non-obtrusive but there when you need them. Everyone at the hotel is friendly and will help with suggestions on what to do and see in the area, small town to explore nearby and will even book you into tone of their coveted vineyard chef dinners. There are many hotels and inns located in the Willamette Valley. But, for those seeking a true slice of heaven where every detail is looked after for you, The Black Walnut Inn and Vineyard is simply the best.

  • St. Barths' Chicest Greek Beachside Eatery | Shellona Beach

Tucked down a small lane in Gustavia lies a little cove, or bay, with one of St. Barths’ best restaurants – Shellona . This lively Greek eatery with stunning views of the azure water was completely destroyed during Hurricane Irma, but the institution that is Shellona rebuilt the restaurant stronger and better. The space was literally wrecked and ravaged, but now you would never know there was a problem. Islanders and visitors love Shellona. Why? It’s so much fun. And, with some of the best Greek cuisine and expertly crafted cocktails you’ll have anywhere, one can’t help but be taken by the entirety of the atmosphere. I spent an afternoon recently here, lounging beachside and then moving-in to a table next to not one, but two notable celebrities in the fashion industry – which is another story. Three hours flew by sipping cocktails and noshing on homemade tzatziki, grilled fish, honey covered filo dough stuffed with cheese and ahi tuna. The staff are fun and attractive, which helps, and you feel like you can spend all day and night here. The thing about Shellona is that it’s casual, and effortlessly chic. So, it’s perfect for that afternoon lull that somehow, in the right environment, turns into the most perfect evening.

  • The Ultimate New York Apartment | Chelsea Frames

Chelsea Frames is far and beyond New York City’s top resource for high-end framing. An operation that has been around in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan for decades, this 9th Avenue spot is the go-to for those who know their art as well as those who want to turn life’s most precious moments into hangable memories that will last a lifetime. Daniel Beauchemin, the company’s CEO, is passionate about art and has worked with everyone from New York-based clients, international clients, corporate clients and more. You can feel this in the entire process of working with Chelsea Frames, and it shows in every detail of their work. We worked with Chelsea Frames to frame several items for The Ultimate New York Apartment. We focused on items for the bedroom, hallway and living area. From inception to completion, the process was elegant, guided and we felt like we were in trusted hands. There were prints done by the famed Gabe Greenberg of Greenberg Editions of images we shot on various travels and safaris throughout East and West Africa – namely Kenya, Guinea and Tanzania. An original oil painting purchased in Istanbul, Turkey and two menu covers from menus presented to passengers on flights between New York and London on the iconic Concorde. There are antique Maasai masks purchased at a market in Nairobi, Kenya. We spoke to Mr. Beauchemin about Chelsea Frames, his work and ethos. IC: When was Chelsea Frames started and when did you become the owner? DB: Originally founded in 1983, I came aboard in 1993 and became owner in 1995. This year marks our 35th anniversary and my 25th. IC: What is the company’s motto or mantra when framing people’s art and personal items? DB: Our goal is to provide the best custom framing solutions to meet the diverse needs of our clientele. This is our mission statement. Our philosophy is to provide excellent customer service, employ talented team members and offer a wide range of quality products and services. We believe the client always comes first and we strive to handle their artwork with care and respect while promoting a work environment focused on teamwork and honesty. IC: Where do you source your materials for framing? DB: Our direct suppliers are all USA and Canada based. They work with fabricators mostly form Europe or Pan Asia. We use products which are reliable and from trusted sources only. This allows us to be timely in our work and provide long term framing solutions as these products are rarely discontinued. We also provide our own selection of milled North American hardwoods which we stock raw and finish in house. This allows us tremendous flexibility as well as the ability to provide quick turn around when necessary. IC: How do you approach each piece when it comes to choosing a frame and other materials? DB: Respect – not only for the artist but for the client. We are stewards of the art – we must provide solutions for protecting, preserving and making it beautiful within the requests of our clients. We take the time to offer suggestions and solutions. IC: What has been your favorite piece to frame in your career? DB: There are so many! One stand-out was creating a plexi-box for a skull photographed and painted by WARHOL. This was purchased by one of our clients at an auction. It was an honor to participate in its preservation! I must admit though – there is nothing like the smile of a parent or grandparent when a piece of children’s art is completed. Every smile we receive from happy customers upon pick up of their finished project warms our hearts. IC: What tips do you have for people when choosing a frame? DB: Be clear in what you hope to achieve and please communicate this to us. Allow us to do the best we can do for your special project. Always think of the long term – the best materials to provide maximum protection of the artwork. IC: What has been the oddest thing you have been asked to frame? DB: Some pieces provide technical challenges, others are objects that are so precious and irreplaceable to the clients. My mantra is IF I CAN DRAW A FRAME – we can BUILD THAT FRAME! Through the years there have been objects and items that definitely presented challenges. IC: How can people utilize your services if they live in New York City or somewhere outside the city? DB: We are open 7 days a week. We are also always available by appointment outside our store hours – and I can be reached directly for those appointments via phone or email. We also offer in-house consultations for a fee which is refunded on the framing project when processed – we call this service our DOORSTEP DESIGN . Lastly, we will always answer inquiries via email received at our info@chelseaframes.com account. We also offer a special program for businesses in the NYC area (or nationwide) via our corporate division – C2 Art and Framing . Through this division, we have helped businesses find art and redesign their corporate spaces to reflect their corporate branding. This service includes finding art if necessary, framing it and assisting in hanging it. We have many clients outside the NYC area (North America and globally) who have their artwork sent to us. We then arrange packing and shipping of their finished projects.

  • The Ultimate New York Apartment | Yves Delorme's Superior Bath Linens

Yves Delorme, the superb French linen manufacturer is known for more than their incredible bedding. An Yves Delorme bathroom is, by far, one of the most luxurious you can have and brings the same sense of elegance you’ll find in their bedrooms – to another room of the home with equal importance. Yves Delorme is synonymous with luxury and quality – and stepping out of the shower and into one of their cozy bath sheets is an incomparable feeling. We spoke with Groupe Fremaux Delorme Managing Director Amaury Fremaux, about the company’s relationship with the bathroom, tips on which towels are appropriate for what occasion and what impact the Yves Delorme bath linens have on their customers lives. IC: Why did Yves Delorme decide to move into bath linens? YD: Actually, the question is interesting because Yves Delorme started the company with bath linens! For years Yves Delorme was exclusively producing bath linens under Mr. Yves Delorme, while at the time the Fremaux Company was producing luxury bed linens, as well as manufacturing yarns and weaving fabrics. We launched a collaboration between Yves Delorme and Fremaux Delorme to offer a more complete assortment or products, and few years later The Fremaux Company acquired The Yves Delorme Company and merged the two activities.  Today, Yves Delorme represents the French luxury lifestyle concept in terms of home linens (bed, bath, table, beach/deck) textile décor accessories, and even lounge and sleepwear. IC: What makes your bath offerings so special? YD: Yves Delorme creates a complete bath line coordinating with each seasonal fashion print design in the bed linen category to offer the complete look and assure the Yves Delorme lifestyle concept.  The bath offering includes all sizes of bath towels, fingertip towels, bath mats, and of course, bath robes and kimono wraps, which are tailored with a Couture approach, giving attention to details such as embroidery, overall cut and design, and form on the cuffs, collar and belt.  All of the original artwork on the fashion designs are re-interpreted in terms of embroidery or weave and scaled for each particular towel size. Yves Delorme owns and operates its weaving facilities, and the workshop, located in Sevelinges, France, that is specialized in jacquard toweling is one of the most cutting-edge jacquard towel facilities in Europe assuring modern techniques and mastery of design and color.  We just rebuilt and modernized this particular factory in Summer 2016. Our head of design in this particular towel studio, Jacqueline Deverchère, has been honored of the insignia of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Ministry of Culture and Communication for her versatility as a specialist in Multicolor Jacquard Design and as the Manager of the Sevelinges workshop team.  We are extremely proud of reuniting this type of excellence in terms of talent and savoir-faire, and we feel that this is also what makes our bath offering extremely special, beyond the qualities of the actual products. IC: How do you source your textiles for your bath linen collection? YD: Our bath linens are only made out of two factories: The first is the one, we just discussed in Sevelinges in France,  and the second is located in Turkey, chosen because of the long history and deep culture of the manufacturing of beautiful bath linens. IC: Where does your inspiration for design come from in your bath linen collection? YD: The Yves Delorme Head Designer & Art Director, Laurence Rouet, finds inspiration for all of our textile collections notably in nature and in the poetry of flora and fauna.  Laurence also finds her inspirations in studying world cultures and in the fine arts, performing arts and literature.  With over 450 stores worldwide and 1 set of linens sold each minute around the globe, Yves Delorme most definitely has an international spirit and looks to multiple inspirations to provide that necessary spark in designing the Yves Delorme Garden! IC: What items are essential for a well-rounded, chic bathroom? YD: In addition to luxury towels a chic bathroom must have comfortable, plush and elegant bathmats for both shower and bath as well as sink areas.  In addition, a bathroom must have stylish and simple bathrobes and if possible, a wall-mounted towel warmer. IC: Do you have any tips on towel etiquette? Which towel should be used for what occasion? In France, there is no such thing as a “show towel.”  All towels in a bathroom should be beautiful and finely assorted to the interior décor, but they should also be used and absolutely enjoyed!  It is this sort of daily luxury that makes each day a special occasion. IC: What is the signature product of the Yves Delorme bath linen collection? YD: The Yves Delorme solid color “Etoile” towel, available in 19 on-trend colors and with an extraordinary hand and quality makes it the absolute reference for luxury toweling in the industry.

  • The Ultimate New York Apartment | The TOTO Neorest 750H

In the world of bathrooms, specifically toilets, the Japanese brand TOTO steps forward as the king of the castle. And, it’s fitting that their thrones are the most high-tech, beautifully and intelligently designed options in the marketplace. Known for decades to be revolutionaries, this has never been more apparent than with the introduction of their NEOREST 750H – a toilet that literally has the potential to change your life and the quality of your day-to-day living. In 1917, in Japan, Kazuchika Okura founded Toyo Toki, K.K., a company dedicated to bringing a healthier and more sanitary bathroom experience to Japan – while protecting the Earth and its water. A true visionary, Okura saw that he could improve his fellow citizens’ lives by spearheading the use of high-quality indoor plumbing products at a time when public sanitation was not yet widespread in Japan. He wanted to make people’s lives healthier and cleaner and looked to the planet to help guide the design of internal toilet flushing systems that would be using water across the entirety of the country. Japan, for centuries, has refined the traditions and craft of pottery and ceramics – and this craftsmanship has been incorporated into every TOTO product, especially those produced today. You can see and feel the difference in the silken glazes that cover the bowls of each toilet – showing the attention to detail the Japanese and TOTO are known for. The company has stuck to its motto, “Take pride in your work, and strive to do your best.” These words have guided them for over a century. Luxury is synonymous with bespoke convenience and TOTO offers just that. But, they have taken convenience a step further with their new technology that knocks their competitors clean out of sight. Found in homes and hotels across the planet, these toilets have been featured in television, in film and in some of the most high-end, exclusive establishments on the planet. So, why not bring this element of luxury into your own home? You’ll find TOTO toilets in hotels like the Park Hyatt Tokyo, and others – helping to shape the stories luxury brands try to deliver to their customers. TOTO’s new technology with the NEOREST 750H is the ACTILIGHT, which has been in development for years. The technology features a special UV light and titanium dioxide and zirconium coating on the bowl’s surface that enables the toilet to break down dirt, grime, waster, mold and mildew – rinsing them down the drain. Their proprietary EWATER+ technology sprays the bowl with electrolyzed water after every flush to sanitize it. The ACTILIGHT turns on automatically and glows a supernatural violet. The light streams through the toilet bowl from the lid, and completely cleans it. You never have to worry about sitting on a dirty toilet again. Aside from this new technology, the NEOREST 750H features a special ceramic glaze that ensures nothing is left behind after use – which is a known problem with standard toilets. The 750H seems untouchable, even by the biggest messes. After several uses, the toilet looks pristine and, really it is – thanks to the ACTILIGHT. No more scrubbing the bowl after each use. You can sit down comfortably and use the wall-mountable remote control to control every function of your experience. Two people can even store their settings in the remote, for comfort and cleanliness at the touch of a button. Of course this toilet features a slew of TOTO’s other signature features aside from the characteristics that make it unique. We are talking about a Tornado/siphon jet flushing system, ACTILIGHT UV light built into the lid, dual flushing function, CEFIONTECT glaze, universal height, WASHLET personal cleansing system with three functions – rear, front and soft, oscillating and pulsating comfort washing. The toilet also features auto flush and auto lid open/close, an automatic air purifying system, adjustable heated seat, adjustable WASHLET wand position, programmable energy saving system, backup manual flush, ADA compliance, multifunctional remote control and EWATER+, which mists the bowl with electrolyzed water – reducing the need for harsh cleaning chemicals, which saves money and protects the planet. And, if any of these functions fail to work or if there is ever confusion about how to handle a particular situation – TOTO’s technical support team, located in California and Georgia, is one call away. They will troubleshoot your toilet with you on the phone and be sure you’re up and running in no time – and, if need be, even come to your home for a house call. I’ve actually never dealt with a more kind and helpful support team behind any device. TOTO’s proprietary Tornado/siphon jet flushing system is green in nature – which speaks loudly to those who are environmentally sensitive, yet do not want to compromise on quality. Their 1.0 GPF gravity-fed dual-flush system uses a mere 1.0 gallon per “full” flush and 0.8 gallons for the light flush. The 750H itself is intuitive and knows when to add more power to flush a big job, versus something smaller and easier to go down. It will flush automatically from seated or standing position. Using the NEOREST 750H toilet is a dream. Imagine a device where every sense is addressed during your bathroom experience. Sitting-down in the morning on a heated seat, especially when the house might be a bit chilly, is a welcomed moment. An automatic air deodorizer makes sure you and your loved ones don’t have to deal with any unwanted air wafting out from the bathroom, the warm water delicately rinsing you after each use is a clean unlike any other – and the toilet is quiet. The TOTO NEOREST 750H is indeed the best, and we can’t recommend it highly enough. Any luxury apartment or home will benefit and, once you try it, you’ll have a very hard time returning to your old ways. The TOTO NEOREST 750H retails for $10,200, but is an investment that will pay-off for years to come.
