We worked with the brand recently to create a custom sign for a luxury 1,800-square-foot loft space in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan – the Ultimate New York Apartment. We had a vision in mind and sought out a partner who could help bring it to life in the most unique way. After working with the company from inception to completion, we can wholeheartedly say that there’s no one like Custom Neon in the e-commerce neon marketplace. The concept of the sign was simple, create a bold statement that reflects our vision and message to live your life to its fullest potential. Using LED lights that hold the ability to change color with a cordless remote, Custom Neon created something truly stunning mounted on a matte lucite backdrop. The matte lucite helps avoid reflection from daylight and allows the letters to look as if they are floating on the wall. Palmer Industries is a Rhode Island-based architectural metalwork company that specializes in manufacturing luxury metal components for various rooms of the home, in the most beautiful of ways. Founded in 1976 by Anthony Palmer after he purchased a painted brass bed at a yard sale a few years prior for $10, and resold it for $100 after it was refurbished; Palmer Industries soon became renowned for its specialty in selling brass beds and other refurbished metal pieces. At the behest of a sales rep they were working with, the company began expanding into other metal components for furniture – but ones that were more specialized. Today, Palmer Industries is known for its niche expertise in metal and are sought out by the nation’s top interior designers, hoteliers, architects, and other professionals looking to create specialized metal components or structures for high-value projects. We worked with the company to create something truly special for a specific space. We worked with Palmer Industries to design the custom stainless steel hanging metal structure to float over a living room dry bar inside a 1,800-square-foot loft in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. The piece was designed to house glass shelving and hold everything from wine glasses to bottles of alcohol and even objects of design. The process was easy and seamless as we worked with the design team at Palmer Industries to settle on the exact measurements and design to complement the bar, which included a soft, desaturated blue cabinetry in Benjamin Moore’s Porcelain Glaze and quartz countertop by MSI Surfaces. We sent mock-ups of what we had in mind to the company and they helped flush out the idea to help it reach its fullest potential. Palmer Industries combined both matte and high shine stainless steel components to create the structure and gave us specialized instructions for assembling and hanging. The quality of materials Palmer uses is the highest in the industry and there are no shortcuts taken in their process. We spoke to the company’s CEO, Mark Tanzi, about what makes his company so special and successful in this specialized sect of the world of interior design and architecture. IC: What makes Palmer different or unique within the custom metal fabrication landscape? MT: Palmer’s ability to develop a design concept from initial customer contact consisting of a phone call, email, simple sketch, or inspiration image, through to a formal proposal and ultimate custom fabrication is truly unique in the modern era of commodity manufacturing. Working with Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, Palmer developed custom washstands for over 250 guest rooms and public spaces, addressing myriad needs for unique architectural metalwork. IC: When a customer is working with Palmer, what is that experience like from concept to completion? MT: Despite our tremendous growth, Palmer still conducts business “the old-fashioned way”, offering every client a genuinely personal and interactive relationship. Project managers, all very technical and well versed, are assigned to custom projects, and partner with a client upon first contact. A specific draftsperson is brought on, and will remain on the project through completion, presenting initial design concepts and ultimately formally approved shop drawings. Our process removes much of the anxiety for first-time clients, as we hand-hold and educate as we move forward, always attentive to and understanding of the many needs in working through a one-of-a-kind development. IC: What limitations do customers have when choosing materials for their project with Palmer? Is anything possible? MT: Historically, Palmer has worked in solid brass, offering all architectural finishes. We do not offer steel fabrication. Brass, with its rich color, malleability, and innate beauty, can be made into many useful and visually stunning objects. You often see brass in jewelry, sculpture, and practical household fixtures. Brass is also tough and strong, and makes for exceptionally functional and decorative architectural pieces. Brass naturally casts an air of sophistication to any home. Soft pinks, beige, chocolate, and brass all coincide to make an unforgettable color palette. Public spaces are outfitted with fabulous florals, crystal chandeliers, and metal art pieces. Food and beverage offerings are plentiful and reflect the hotel’s interior so that it all flows effortlessly at every guest touchpoint. I was a guest recently at Hotel Cafe Royal and spent three nights sequestered away in the cavernous den of luxury. I was impressed immediately upon entering the property from quaint Air Street, struck by the site of the gorgeous chandelier hanging in the middle of the room. The reflective gold reception area beamed brightly leading me up to three smiling faces welcoming me to my home away from home. The reception agents checked me into the hotel quickly, and I was soon led to my stunning room. Passing through sitting areas and to the ornate elevator reception, I knew I was in for a treat. The staff of Hotel Cafe Royal immediately caught my attention because of their willingness to help, and their pleasant demeanor. Though the hotel was busy, there wasn’t a minute where the team at the property missed a beat. They were always one step ahead from check-in, luggage assistance, the concierge team, and even the ckeck-out process. While at Hotel Cafe Royal, I was fortunate enough to experience the on-site dining venue – Cakes and Bubbles. Here, Hotel Cafe Royal helps to recreate the iconic tradition of British afternoon team. Although tea experiences are plantiful in London and quintessential at 5-star properties, the one here is special. Cakes and Bubbles offers lunch and tea from renowned pastry chef Albert Adria. You can choose from mixed drinks, steeped tea, Veuve Clicquot champagne and over 50 other champagnes and sparkling wines. Cakes and Bubbles is a beautiful room, decked-out in an incredible array of marble. The tables and accents all complement the space and help set the stage for the main event – the food. Although you can order savory options from Hotel Cafe Royal at lunchtime, my favorite options come from the cakes menu. You can choose options like: chocolate yuzu castella, the “cheese cake” or matcha basque cheesecake. Pair this with the perfect glass of bubbles and your afternoon is complete. For how busy the area of Piccadilly Circus is, Hotel Cafe Royal is calm and inviting. I spent a few hours enjoying my desserts and the room – which is an ideal place to sit and “people watch” in London. Even though London is a very exciting city with much to explore, I found myself wanting to spend a good deal of time in my room. Everything was so comfortable and attention to detail superb. Lighting is important to me and the lights are on pre-set dimmers to create moods. This deserves a round of applause in my opinion. The furniture fabrics are rich and luxurious – and the bathrooms are pure heaven. Nothing feels cheap here. Marble bathrooms are dressed with plush towels, cozy robes and a plethora of amenities that make preparing for the evening or the next day that much more enjoyable. If you are familiar with London hotel rooms and London hotel bathrooms, you’ll be immediately impressed with the size of those at Hotel Cafe Royal. There is ample space to dress and luxuriate in peace and comfort, finding yourself looking your best in soft, glowing lighting. A welcome bottle of champagne and speedy room service makes that process even better. Somehow here you can’t help but feel totally relaxed and calm. Hotel Cafe Royal also offers a stunning spa, Akasha, and a fully-equipped exercise facility to help guests stay on top of their fitness and wellness while away. It is here where you might bump into a celebrity or two, who often call the hotel home while visiting the city. I was able to exercise twice during my stay and had so wished I made time to experience the spa for one of their signature facials or massages. Hotel Cafe Royal is the perfect choice for luxury seekers looking for a little edge in the heart of London. A combination of beauty, hospitality, and the unexpected are waiting for you on a happening corner of Piccadilly. But, beware, once you check in you might not want to check out. It quickly has become one of my favorite addresses in one of the best cities in the world.

Boasting locations across the city and a clientele that reads like a who’s who of town – getting a medical pedicure here is an experience like none other. I was lucky enough to score an appointment at the location in Notting Hill and was treated by two senior technicians in the private treatment room. Margaret Dabbs is not a foot factory but a sanctuary that invites you in for a real look at your feet – the good, bad and ugly. What is special about the experience is that the podiatrist (yes, podiatrist) that is treating you looks at the health of your nails, foot alignment, and gait to address your nail growth and comfort through a medical approach. I was greeted warmly by the team at Margaret Dabbs and led to the treatment room with no wait at all. The technicians working on my hands and feet introduced themselves and began analyzing my hands and feet. As someone who tries to keep those extremities in shape to the best of my ability, I was confident in what they were looking at but knew there was work to be done. I was told that the reason one of my toenails grew this way was due to my stance and the reason I had an issue with toe pain on another foot was due to the way I walk. But, there are solutions to be had and tips are given to realign and correct the issues at hand. It was chosen in conjunction with MSI Surfaces to use on the galley-style kitchen countertop as well as a built-in dry bar in the living area. The loft is the perfect spot to showcase this material as it’s modern yet timeless – and very durable. The Calcatta Laza quartz instantly brightened the space from the countertop to the backsplash. The milky-white background is punctuated with a soft brown veining that mimics marble. This quartz is very easy to clean and nearly maintenance-free, which is a bonus for any busy cook who utilizes their kitchen – even in a city like New York. Starbright Floral Design is New York’s top florist for 2022.
