The Seoul Glow | Why Cheongdam CiRCLE Is Redefining the Best of Korean Beauty

Inside Seoul’s extraordinary world of aesthetic medicine, Inspired Citizen sits down with Dr. Suh of Cheongdam CiRCLE Clinic to discover why the future of K-beauty isn’t about changing your face. It’s about understanding your skin. And, in the end, we'll take you there for a personalized K-Beauty glow-up. I did it recently, and the results were phenomenal.

There are few places in the world where beauty feels quite as intertwined with daily life as it does in Seoul.

Korean beauty has long traveled beyond the country’s borders, first through elaborate skincare rituals, essences, sheet masks and the pursuit of famously luminous “glass skin.” But spend time in Seoul today and another, considerably more sophisticated side of the Korean beauty phenomenon begins to emerge.

Behind the serums and cosmetics is an extraordinary ecosystem of aesthetic medicine, dermatology, regenerative treatments, injectables and technologies designed to address the skin and underlying structures of the face with increasing precision.

And much of that innovation can be found in Cheongdam-dong.

It was here, during my own recent Korean “glow up,” that I discovered Cheongdam CiRCLE Clinic, a medical-aesthetic destination that takes a decidedly different approach to beauty. Rather than simply offering patients an enormous menu of Korea’s latest treatments, CiRCLE attempts to answer a more important question:

What does this particular face actually need?

That distinction is what makes the clinic one of the most interesting destinations in Seoul for the beauty-conscious traveler.

Beyond the K-Beauty Hype

CiRCLE’s philosophy begins with Dr. Suh, whose interest in dermatology developed from seeing the relationship between someone’s skin and the way they feel about themselves.

“Skin is something we see every day,” he told me during an exclusive interview for Inspired Citizen, explaining that even relatively small improvements can affect a patient’s confidence and quality of life. Her interest eventually became focused not merely on changing someone’s appearance but on creating natural, lasting improvements.

That philosophy becomes immediately important in a city where the sheer quantity of available aesthetic treatments can be dizzying.

Lasers. Radiofrequency. Ultrasound. Skin boosters. Polynucleotides. Collagen stimulators. Threads. Fillers. Hydrafacials. Devices that target different depths and layers of the face.

CiRCLE currently highlights treatments including Hydrafacial, Ulthera, Thermage, Silhouette Soft, its NP Booster and Small Fit among its signature offerings. The clinic says its lifting practice alone has access to more than 30 premium devices.

The temptation for someone flying into Seoul can therefore be to arrive with a shopping list.

Dr. Suh thinks differently.

“My approach is always patient-first and highly individualized,” she told me. “I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all treatment plan.”

Instead, she considers skin quality, facial structure, concerns, lifestyle and the desired outcome. And then comes a refreshing admission from a doctor whose business is aesthetic treatments: sometimes the correct answer is doing less.

The “Non-Factory” Clinic

That brings us to perhaps the most important part of my conversation with Dr. Suh.

I asked her what makes CiRCLE different from the enormous number of cosmetic clinics operating throughout Korea.

Her answer was revealing.

“We don’t see aesthetic medicine as a menu of procedures. We see it as personalized medical care.”

She describes CiRCLE’s philosophy as deliberately “non-factory.”

While acknowledging that Korea has many excellent cosmetic clinics, Dr. Suh explained that some operate around high-volume, procedure-focused models. CiRCLE instead concentrates on consultation, individual skin and structural assessment and, critically, the combination and sequence of treatments.

Even when two patients are treated with the same technology, she says, the protocol can change according to their anatomy and what the physician is trying to accomplish.

That philosophy extends into CiRCLE’s Medical Lounge, which the clinic describes as incorporating both Pro-Aging and Pre-Juvenation, bringing together customized procedures, treatment aftercare and home care.

For the international traveler, there is another important consideration.

“Clear communication, professional interpretation, personalized aftercare, and continuity of care are all part of the experience,” Dr. Suh told me.

And that, for me, is essential. Flying halfway around the world for aesthetic medicine shouldn’t feel like walking into a beauty supermarket.

The Machines Behind the Magic

Of course, part of Korea’s appeal is technology.

So I asked Dr. Suh the question almost every beauty obsessive wants answered: Which devices does she actually love?

For deeper structural lifting and contouring, she pointed to Ellansé Contour and Silhouette Soft, noting her extensive experience with both. What interests her is not simply tighter-looking skin, but the ability to address underlying facial structure while maintaining a natural result.

When it comes specifically to energy-based technology, she highlighted XERF, because treatment can be precisely adjusted according to skin thickness, laxity and facial structure.

CiRCLE’s broader lifting program includes Silhouette Soft, Ellansé ligament lifting, Ulthera, Thermage FLX and numerous other energy-based technologies. Its website emphasizes a structural approach rather than simply tightening the skin’s surface.

But Dr. Suh made an important point during our conversation: there isn’t necessarily one “best” machine.

The advantage is choice.

Korea’s enormous aesthetic technology ecosystem gives an experienced physician the ability to select different technologies, depths and combinations for different faces.

And the next generation of devices may take this considerably further.

“What excites me most is the direction the technology is moving in,” she explained. Rather than simply applying greater amounts of energy, she expects future devices to target different depths of skin and underlying tissue with increasing precision.

She also expects greater synergy between devices, injectables and regenerative treatments.

In other words, the future may not be one miracle machine.

It may be the physician who understands how to orchestrate ten of them.

The New Korean Glow

One of the biggest lessons from my conversation with Dr. Suh was that achieving beautiful skin is increasingly less about altering facial features and more about improving the quality of the skin itself.

For radiance and collagen production, she frequently prefers skin boosters.

Rather than simply adding volume, these treatments work within the skin with the objective of improving qualities such as hydration, elasticity and texture.

She particularly likes polynucleotide-based boosters such as Rejuran when regeneration and collagen support are priorities, although once again he rejects the idea that one product is appropriate for everyone. The formulation, injection technique and target layer should depend upon the individual patient.

“For me, the goal is not simply to make the skin look brighter temporarily, but to build healthier, stronger skin over time.”

That sentence may encapsulate the new Korean beauty movement better than almost anything else.

When the Clinic Comes Home

Dr. Suh has even extended that philosophy beyond CiRCLE with equal:ogy, her personal skincare brand.

She told me the company began with one question: What happens to the skin after the patient leaves the clinic?

Its name combines “equal” and “technology,” while the brand’s proprietary Equalizer Complex™ combines dozens of selected active ingredients. Particularly interesting is its focus on what Dr. Suh calls skincare’s “blind spots”: the eyes, neck, and lips, delicate areas often overlooked in conventional routines.

CiRCLE’s current website similarly describes Equalizer Complex™ as an exclusive patented ingredient developed from clinical experience and data.

But perhaps the most refreshing advice from our conversation came when I asked which products actually make the greatest difference.

Her answer wasn’t an exotic Korean serum.

It was sunscreen and good barrier care.

She pointed to cumulative sun exposure as an important contributor to pigmentation, fine lines and loss of elasticity and stressed that physicians first need to understand why someone is experiencing a particular concern.

Sometimes that means a skin booster.

Sometimes an energy-based treatment.

Sometimes it means changing what you’re doing at home.

It is a surprisingly restrained philosophy in an industry constantly trying to convince us that we need something new.

And that may be precisely why CiRCLE stands out.

Experience It: The Inspired Citizen Seoul Glow

After experiencing Seoul’s beauty culture ourselves, Inspired Citizen is taking the next step.

THE IC SEOUL GLOW

A Private K-Beauty Journey by Inspired Citizen

5 Nights | Seoul, South Korea

This isn’t a cosmetic-tourism package. It is a private introduction to the city that has arguably transformed the global conversation around skincare.

Your journey begins before you ever enter the clinic. Inspired Citizen arranges your luxury hotel, private airport transfers, restaurant reservations, and personally curated exploration of Seoul’s beauty, fashion, design, and culinary worlds.

At the heart of the experience is a personally coordinated visit to Cheongdam CiRCLE Clinic, beginning with a physician consultation and individualized assessment.

There is deliberately no predetermined “Glow Up menu.”

CiRCLE’s philosophy is precisely the opposite.

Your skin quality, facial anatomy, lifestyle, concerns and desired outcome are considered before the medical team determines what, if anything, is appropriate. Depending upon that consultation, the resulting treatment program might involve skin boosters, lifting or tightening technologies, regenerative approaches, injectables, medical skincare or a combination selected by the physician.

The day following treatment is intentionally designed around recovery. Inspired Citizen can arrange private transportation and a gentle Seoul itinerary compatible with the clinic’s aftercare instructions, whether that means a beautiful lunch, private shopping, galleries, tea, downtime at the hotel or simply doing absolutely nothing.

The remaining journey reveals another side of Korean beauty: discovering emerging skincare brands, exploring Cheongdam and Apgujeong, shopping Seoul’s fashion and design scene and eating through one of Asia’s most exciting culinary capitals.

And then you take the glow home.

Because perhaps the most important thing I learned from Dr. Suh in Seoul is that great skin isn’t supposed to announce that you’ve had something done.

It should simply make someone wonder why you look so good.
